sharing our gifts

I am inspired by the stories people share with me. Two recent stories merit mention. Sitting in a pew near you is Jill McCormick. Jill recently conceived of a bridge fundraiser for the Brunswick Street Mission. Where? Jill’s Bridge Connection, at 250 Baker Drive in Dartmouth (suite 230, building entrance to the right of Access NS) When? Sunday April 28th, 1:00-4:15pm How much? $10 per player. Format of bridge game: INDIVIDUAL duplicate, meaning that players will partner several different players throughout the afternoon. Game proceeds: half of intake will go to Brunswick Street Mission, other half to club expenses. Other ways to contribute: 50/50 draw - half to the winner, half to Brunswick Street Mission - personal contributions may be made, 100% going to Brunswick Street Mission. Why Brunswick Street Mission? As a thank you and contribution for the incredible services and support it provides to the citizens of HRM for persons in need, while helping maintain their dignity. AND…on Monday I spent the morning and early afternoon with the residents of Melville Heights. They regularly invite me to lead a time of spiritual exploration in their chapel, followed by a meal, where I sit with the residents and hear their stories. Later, the residents shared their excitement as a CBC reporter was coming to interview them on a project they sponsored in support of persons in need. Here is their story: https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/video/1.7178752 You likely recognize staff member Lori Cormier, another person who sits in the pews with you.

I love hearing stories where persons utilize their God-given gifts for the benefit of others. Making that connection creates an epiphany sowing the seeds of happiness, even joy. So often we are captives of worldly suggestion, whether it is found on social media or social conventions. We seem to want what others have, define ourselves by standards set by values alien to our Christian faith. When we leave piety and platitudes behind, there are sacred moments where our gift and others’ needs, meet in that sweet spot called community. I believe the Book of Acts reflects this Spirit and inspires further acts of faith. Together we lean into a happiness and joy that sustains for a lifetime.
